School-Based Health Centers are Lucrative Infrastructure for Preventative Care: A Word from Reuben Moore

At our upcoming celebration of 50 years of SBHCs, we are proud to partner with our key sponsor: MN Community Care. As described in our last blog MCC is the home of one of the first school-based health center systems in the country, Health Start.

As we celebrate this legacy, we also celebrate transformative legislation in 2023 that opens new possibilities in Minnesota to expand school-based care funding and infrastructure.

In this video, President and Executive Officer of MN Community Care, Reuben Moore speaks to the significance of collaboration between our our MN Alliance, our Congress, our state legislature, our schools, our communities, and our health care organizations to advance this critical model of health equity. This model of care starts with students and grows with them into adulthood. These collaboration efforts expand prevention, improve education outcomes, support our workforce, and bring wealth and stability to our communities.

In President Moore’s words, school-based health centers support…

Prevention: “School-based clinics are one of the most impactful preventive care models for adolescents.”

Education: “It is so important when you think of health care and learning as one.”

Workforce Development: “School-based clinics really play a key role in ensuring that we will have healthy Senators, healthy Presidents, healthy Governors, healthy lawyers, healthy engineers for the future of our country.”

Collaboration: “We need more schools collaborating with our School-Based Health Alliance and the other institutions that are trying to help expand school-based clinics.”

Thank you to Minnesota Community Care for your trusted partnership!
